Like a trip to the depths of London’s alternative nocturnal revelries, Nao’s spanking new sophomore EP ‘February 15’ is a damn good night out. It starts off by making you want to get down and dirty, in the best possible way. I forget that I’m writing this from a sun-drenched balcony overlooking a tropical rainforest; all I want to do is grind with a strange anybody that’ll let me, in questionable circumstances, in the darkest of dark corners.
The first two tracks, ‘Inhale Exhale’ and ‘Zillionaire’ and their movement-inducing beats cause primal instincts to resurface, and caution is dismissed. Then, familiarity ensues, replacing the animalistic attraction, and you want to slow dance to the low BPM dub-beat of the third track ‘Apple Cherry’. ‘Golden’ then kicks in, and now we’re having fun while the sun’s coming up. ‘It’s You’ is a perfect ending to the EP / Evening, and one finds one’s self sinking into the slow tempo of infatuation. Here’s when I hope you’ve got a suitable partner to take home – ideally the physical manifestation of the London singer’s sensual yet carnal vocal demonstrations; all I’ve got is my brother next to me, trying to smell his own feet.
