Meet Hana McAdam
Meet Hana. It was a week ago that I met her in New York City. After listening to her wild and quirky youth, I thought I'd spend the next day photographing her around Soho. After all, it is Fashion Week and here's what she has to say to you.
"When people ask me where I’m from, the lines become rather blurry. My answer will usually depend on if I want to have an entire conversation or whether or not it’s one of those awkward icebreakers you’re forced to do at the beginning of school years. But fuck it, I was born in Bellingham, Washington. Completely surprised by my arrival, my parents decided their home was too small to raise a child and so decided that buying a vintage VW pop-up camper van was definitely the way to go. We traveled around the entire continental US in that van, making sure to stay around the borders so we could get to the water. After that we spent sometime in Trinidad and Tobago. From there we moved to Maui, where the origin of my name is from. Naturally I became the only white hula dancing child under the Banyan Tree but I never cared about that. My Dad was a surfer before I was born so living on the beach was always a necessity. When my sister was born in 2002 we needed to find a better town for her to grow up, leading us to move to Port Townsend, Washington. It’s a small Victorian town on a peninsula a little over an hour away from Seattle. During high school I traveled to Phapang, Thailand a few times and consider that another home.
But if anyone asks I’m just from Seattle."
